Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use HelpThisWay, including on old phones, on slow connections and with assistive technology. We aim for WCAG 2.2 AA. This page says what works today and what we have not tested yet.

What works today

  • You can find help without an account, without chat, without sharing your location and without JavaScript.
  • Text is large by default: body text is 17 pixels and nothing is smaller than 15 pixels. At 200% zoom the page becomes one column with no sideways scrolling.
  • Buttons and form fields are at least 44 pixels tall, on phones and on computers.
  • Opening hours, intake and checks are shown in words and a shape, never by colour alone.
  • Our text colours meet WCAG AA contrast. If your device asks for more contrast, or you use a Windows contrast theme, the site follows it.
  • Nothing moves on its own. If your device asks for reduced motion, animations are turned off.
  • On every page the first link is “Skip to main content”, and whatever has keyboard focus gets a thick outline.

Low data mode

Low data mode shows text only: no map and no chat box. It turns on by itself when your browser asks to save data, and you can turn it on or off here or at the bottom of any page.

Low data mode: Off

Not tested yet

  • We have not yet tested with screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack) or with people who use them.
  • We have not yet tested on real older phones. The map, the assistant and “Use my location” need a browser from 2023 or later. Search, listings and phone numbers work without them.
  • Translations other than English and Chinese have not been checked by native speakers yet.
  • For most listings we do not know yet whether there is wheelchair access. We show “not known” instead of guessing.

Tell us about a problem

There is no separate accessibility form yet. If a listing is wrong or hard to use, use the link for reporting wrong information on that listing and describe the problem. If you need help now, use urgent and human help.

Support hours and response times are shown where feedback is submitted; there is no live chat.
